Apart from David Wilson's "Moated Sites" it is necessary to scrabble for details of moated properties in the likes of Pevsner's architectural county guides or you could plough through back copies of "Country Life". However, Mike Salter's booklets about "The Castles and Moated Mansions" of various counties are very useful. Although selective in the choice of properties, it is also worth looking at "Moated Houses" by W Outram Tristram (1910) and "Moated Houses of England" by R Thurston Hopkins (1935).
